The Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will host an open house at Station 22 in Lansdowne from noon to 3:45 p.m. Oct. 6.
The AVFRD will have a number of activities of interest to families and folks of all ages: Ambulance and fire engine tours, gypsy fortune teller (secret safety tips); kitchen safety for seniors/adaptive, shoot the hose, face painting, balloon artist, fire truck moon slide and other fun time and educational things to do, including firefighting techniques and learning how to call 911. You will have an opportunity to meet the men and women who provide a safety net for residents of Lansdowne and River Creek.
You can watch a ladder climbing exhibition, which will involve eight firefighters carrying 75 pounds of gear clambering up an 100-foot ladder. For fundraising purposes, you will be able to sponsor one of the climbers at a minimum of $1 per foot. Cash and checks will be accepted or you can go to their website at http://www.ashburnfirerescue.org
and use Paypal.
