Popular Leesburg bakery closes its doors

A beloved, award-winning bakery in Leesburg has decided to close its doors. Layered Cake Patisserie on Catoctin Circle announced Monday they will cease operations effective immediately.

A Facebook post from owners Barbara and Anthony Chavez stated:

“To all our customers, employees, friends, and family, we want to say THANK YOU so much for the support you have given us over the past 7 years! Layered Cake Patisserie grew from a stand at the Leesburg Farmers Market to a successful bakery in Leesburg with the help and support of many people and employees. We are honored to have served the community and we'll greatly miss all the connections we've made during our time in business. After a lot of consideration, we decided to make a change and move in a different direction for our growing family. Effective immediately, the bakery will be closed. Thank you again for your support and helping us live our dream!”

In 2017, Layered Cake was named the best bakery in Virginia, according to BuzzFeed. Layered Cake was also runner-up this year in the Loudoun Times Mirror's Best of Loudoun contest.

A call to the Chavez family was not immediately returned.

Fans of Layered Cake filled the company's Facebook page with farewell messages.

"So sorry to learn this. You are the best bakery around and we will miss you," Julie Sande posted.

So very sad. Layered Cake made our wedding cupcakes, and they were INCREDIBLE. Will definitely miss this gem of a bakery.

This is really, really sad. Their croissants were incredible, and it was one of those nice one-off businesses in Leesburg that give it some of its unique character. As many things as Wegmans does well, their croissants are disappointing, at best. Layered Cake will be missed.
