Purcellville Wine Kitchen to open Tuesday
The popular restaurant's third location – adding to its established presence in Leesburg and Frederick, Md. – welcomed regulars for a soft opening featuring full menu and wine list Friday and Saturday night, and the eatery will open to the public Tuesday for dinner service only.
Technically, the new restaurant is named WK Hearth, a reference to the brick oven and warm hospitality, according to co-owner Jason Miller; yet the spot carries a similar ambiance and menu as the Wine Kitchens nearby.
Located in the Purcellville Gateway development near the intersection of East Main Street and Berlin Turnpike, WK Hearth features the historic Cole Farmhouse renovated into a two-level bistro offering diverse wines and fresh, American-eclectic fare.
Wine Kitchen loyalists and Purcellville residents have eagerly anticipated the new location's opening since news broke of the expansion a year ago. At that time, Miller and co-owner Michael Mercer hoped for a spring 2013 launch, but that was delayed due to regulatory and construction snags.
In August 2012, Miller told the Times-Mirror “Purcellville is just a natural fit.”
“We’ll be successful there the same reason we’re successful in Leesburg,” Miller said. “It’s a close community that appreciates local businesses, local products and a great atmosphere.”
Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro was in attendance for Friday's soft opening.
"Purcellville is delighted to welcome the Wine Kitchen and all that it has to offer our community. Their food, hospitality and new restaurant are outstanding. We thank Mike and Jason for their investment in our town and for the jobs they have created," Lazaro said.
On Saturday, the new restaurant welcomed Henry Cole, the children's books author and illustrator from Purcellville whose family owned the original farmhouse, which dates back to the late 19th century.
Joining Mercer and Miller in manning the weekend's opening were Justin Garrison, the executive chef, Michael Foote, general manager for the Purcellville location and the service staff.
Main dinner dishes at the new spot are running roughly $15-$25, with most bottles of wine tabbed at $25-$40.
WK Hearth will be open for lunch and dinner six days a week -- closed Monday -- beginning Aug. 27.
This story has been updated to show the new restaurant launched in Purcellville by Wine Kitchen co-owners Jason Miller and Michael Mercer is named WK Hearth.
