SCC seeking comment on proposed Dulles Greenway toll increase

The State Corporation Commission is seeking comments on a proposed toll increase along the Dulles Greenway.

Toll Road Investors Partnership II (TRIP II) is requesting a 2.8 percent increase plus a 3-cent increase for payment of an increase in local property taxes to Loudoun County and the Town of Leesburg, according to the SCC.

For a 2-axle vehicle, the proposed increase amounts to 15 cents, from $4.10 to $4.25. During peak morning and afternoon weekday periods, the proposed increase is 20 cents, from $4.90 to $5.10.

Written comments on the request must be submitted by Feb. 7. All correspondence should be sent to the Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2118, and refer to case number PUE-2013-00139.

Interested persons desiring to submit comments electronically may do so at the SCC’s website: http://www.scc.virginia.gov/case Click. on the "public comments/notices" link and then the "submit comments" button for case number PUE-2013-00139.

@cowbell that both parties are worthless.

But the Tea Party isn’t a party. Well, I guess they ARE a party… of knuckleheads intent on acting against their own self interest and FOR the interest of the fat cats who manipulate them.

They unknowingly act to legalize corporate corruption with their moronic rants about deregulating everything. Does anyone other than an imbecile think that Enron, Citi, JP Morgan and the long list of others would behave more ethically without any laws keeping their larceny at bay? ROFL

@John, both parties are worthless. And siding with one shows how brainwashed you truly are. Tim Kaine gave the dulles toll road to MWAA even though it was payed off….It should be a free road.

This is PRICELESS! Another in a long list of examples of Tea Party fail. The mantra “PRIVATIZE EVERYTHING!” doesn’t always work out so well, does it?

Tea Party: Pawns of the top 1/2 of 1%, Pushing for deregulation of everything so the fat cats can screw the rest of us, over and over…

@mephisto: Our corrupt VA politicians have stuck it to us big time in Northern va. Besides the greenway, we still have to pay for Dulles Toll Rd, which was suppose to go away once paid for. Another big lie. Do you really think the new Transportation tax only goes towards roads in Northern va???? I give it 2 years before the rest of VA is taking more of our transportation tax money. Our local politicians need to grow a pair….

If you live near or west of Leesburg, the Greenway makes no sense for the afternoon commute. Whatever time you save for the $5 toll, you lose sitting in traffic at the end of the line…20 minutes to do the last mile and a half.

Someday, we’ll get a politician or two who realizes you don’t sell your constituents out with “public/private partnership” deals…you use government and the taxes you take in to provide things like roads!

The case before the SCC is definitely not a dog and pony show. If the Greenway gets out of that investigation unscathed it is only because of the incompetent and perhaps too cozy SCC staffers.  In the hearings, SCC staff persons went out of their way to accommodate the Greenway and its lawyers.  The bias was significant.

TRIP II asserts it must raise tolls because of the risk to investors, but that risk is only there because TRIP II has leveraged bad debt against the Greenway cash cow.  The road has been paid for, a reasonable return has been made.  The Greenway is simply taking out more loans for other projects/investments because it knows the SCC will never turn them down for anything.

How can they even entertain another toll increase when they are supposedly investigating the legality of the previous toll increases?  Shouldn’t the investigation be resolved before returning to business as usual? Or is Ramadan’s dog and pony show just a scam?
