School Board votes for full pre-budget meeting with Board of Supervisors
The School Board voted 8-0 (one absent) Nov. 13 for a full meeting with the Board of Supervisors.
The motion conflicts with a Nov. 7 motion by the Board of Supervisors, which recommended that only the Supervisors’ chair, vice chair and finance committee chair meet with the School’s Board chair, vice chair and finance committee.
Several School Board members criticized the Board of Supervisors motion, which departed from a recommendation by the two bodies’ joint committee.
“I don’t see how that’s productive,” said School Board member Bill Fox (Leesburg). “Three members of the board cannot represent the will of either board. I think this is a misstep by the other board.”
School Board member Jennifer Bergel (Catoctin) said the meeting was increasingly important because the Board has already been told budget cuts are coming.
“It’s appropriate that we meet earlier than later as two boards, rather than just leadership,” Bergel said. “I think there’s a lot of value for us all sitting there as a board.”
The Board voted down a motion 0-8 to for the three members of each group to meet. That proposal was made by the Board of Supervisors.
School member Debbie Rose (Algonkian) was absent from the Nov. 13 meeting.
