Social House Kitchen & Tap aims for ‘upscale comfort’ in South Riding

Restaurant owner Jim Speros, known locally for Velocity Five restaurant and Velocity Wings, has opened his latest concept in South Riding – Social House Kitchen & Tap.

The new restaurant softly opened over the past two weeks. The space was designed to provide patrons with a very comfortable setting and experience. The interior features custom-made 200 year old reclaimed wood from Aldie, for an “authentic and rustic look.”

The new 4,000-square-foot eatery in the end unit of Eastern Marketplace Plaza in South Riding, has 143 seats inside and 70 seats on the patio, which provides a unique indoor and outdoor experience, Speros said.

“I personally took all of the things I have learned from over 30 years in the restaurant business to create something that is unique and upscale. I have had a lot of fun and have been wanting to do this for a long time,” Speros said.

Speros' chefs worked for months to perfect the upscale menu with comfort food, he said, taking into account a tremendous amount of research from up and down the eastern seaboard.

Starters on the menu include beer and whiskey battered onion rings, bavarian pretzels, tomato bruschetta, and loaded tater tots.

The menu also features soups, such as homemade bourbon chicken and shrimp gumbo, fresh salads, and handheld items such as street tacos, burgers and club sandwiches.

Speros said one of the chef's specialties is a Cuban sandwich which is “really good.”

“There are a lot of items on the menu designed for small bites and sharing around the table,” Speros said.

Larger entrees include steaks, fish and chips, grilled fajitas, a variety of flatbreads and shrimp and grits.

There are 30 beers on tap, 50 bourbons at the bar, and patrons can select from a wide range of signature cocktails and wines, Speros said. He has made a point to highlight Loudoun's breweries and wineries on the menu, as well.

There is live entertainment on the patio every Thursday through Saturday featuring local talent such as Shane Gamble, Chris Timbers, Emma Bailey, Chris Koethe and Josh Burgess.

Speros said if all goes well, he will consider opening more Social House restaurants around Loudoun in the future. He added Velocity Wings is expanding this fall with a new location in Lovettsville, set to open in November.
