Sterling man charged with assault on law enforcement, malicious wounding

A Sterling man is facing a slew of charges following a Saturday morning arrest in the 22000 block of Landmark Court in Ashburn.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. for an assault resulting from a verbal altercation.

The man, identified as Richard L. Paige, 54, of Sterling, reportedly resisted arrest and tried to assault deputies before fleeing the area on foot.

Paige was eventually captured and charged with assault on law enforcement, malicious wounding, kidnapping, strangulation, simple assault, destroying a phone line with intent, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. He was also served with three outstanding probation violation warrants.

Paige and deputies were treated for injuries at a local hospital.

Paige is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
