Looking for a cool treat on a hot day? Old Ashburn has a new addition: Hershey's Ice Cream Shake Shop, located near Mediterranean Breeze and Fresh and Organic.
The Shake Shop, which opened July 29, is owned by Salvi and Naresh Verma, who "have always wanted to open a Hershey's ice cream store," Naresh Verma said.
When the Vermas, who have lived in the area for four years, heard about Hershey Ice Cream's new Shake Shop concept they knew this was something that they wanted to do.
"Wherever we go, we look for Hershey's Ice Cream," Verma said.
Hershey's has opened four other Shake Shop stores in New Jersey and New York' the Ashburn location is the first in Virginia.
Besides shakes and ice cream, the shop also sells nationally known Tom's Pretzels and David's Cookies, which are baked fresh daily. There are fresh fruit smoothies made with non-fat ice cream for people looking for a healthier treat.
The shop sells 32 flavors of ice cream, which can all be made into shakes, as well as six flavors of smoothies.
"Many of our customers have thanked us for opening here, as there are not a lot of places to buy hard ice cream nearby," said Salvi Verma.
"We are so happy with our location, close to the bike trail and as part of the community," she added.
The owners plan to add more features to make it a cozy place to relax with kids, such as changing the lighting and having an area with games and books. They are also focused on the community and giving back to the schools.
"We always love being around the kids," Naresh Verma said, adding that if he sees someone arrive at the shop just as they are closing, "I will always keep it open to serve ice cream."
So far, business is "going well," with the busiest time of day being the evening hours.
The Shake Shop is at 20693 Ashburn Road, Ashburn. 571-223-2495.
