The Fresh Market at One Loudoun to close

The Fresh Market in One Loudoun is closing for good, according to regular customers. The store, which opened in 2013, is offering major discounts on items this week.

The Fresh Market operates nearly 170 locations across the East Coast and into the Midwest. The nearest locations for Loudouners, aside from the closing Ashburn store, are Vienna and Winchester.

Loudoun County's grocery market has become increasingly competitive in recent years, with Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Giant, Whole Foods, Food Lion and Aldi all operating locations across the sprawling county. German grocer Lidl is soon to open a location in Ashburn near Clyde's Willow Creek Farm restaurant.

LoudounResident010—Whole Foods is having problems, also.  I don’t know specifically about the Ashburn location.  Their stock is down and there are rumors that Albertsons is looking to buy them.

I agree, we need a Trader Joe’s in Ashburn!!

The Fresh Market was basically a crappy version of Whole Foods.  So once a real Whole Foods opened nearby that pretty much sealed their fate.

And Buffacuse3 is completely right about One Loudoun.  Everyone was expecting Reston Town Center with a baseball stadium and what we got was an ever-growing residential development with a few restaurants attached.

Hey…I know…let’s put another beer joint or restaurant in there…

One Loudoun is a joke…a bad joke that’s been perpetrated on all of us in the form of broken promises of commercial development and job creation, transient restaurants, barely any retail, a non-existent baseball stadium, and a never-ending bunch of new townhouses to make up for the failure of this “development.”

The BoS, if it had any sense of shame, should be ashamed of themselves for this white elephant that is dumping more kids into our schools without doing much of anything for the local economy.  And, it’s not like we didn’t see this coming…ten years ago, One Loudoun was a mess just trying to get off the ground.  The fact that it’s a mess today should come as a surprise to no one.

Maybe it’s another ruse to get the supervisors to approve more housing there :(

This location would be perfect for a Trader joe’s

Oh, that’s a shame.  The food is great and the staff is always so helpful and friendly.  It’s a lot like Giant used to be.

All these high priced grocery stores and still no Trader Joe’s. Sigh…..maybe someday….
