This Leesburg bakery is the best in the Virginia

Bravo, Layered Cake Patisserie.

The three-year-old Leesburg shop on Catoctin Circle is the best bakery in the Virginia, according to BuzzFeed.

In collaboration with Yelp, BuzzFeed has released the best bakeries in every state. Loudoun County's Layered Cake took top honors for Old Dominion.

Here’s how the ever-popular news and entertainment website explained its methodology: “We asked Yelp for the most popular bakeries in every state — which they measured using an algorithm that looked at the number of reviews plus the star rating for every bakery on Yelp.”

Layered Cake flaunts a 4.8-star rating through 80 reviews.

“AMAZING — everything in the store is awesome! For me it’s a toss-up between the Coconut Macaroon or the Vanilla Bean Macaron, so I usually get both along with a great cup of fresh, locally sourced coffee,” noted one Yelper, “Bernie S.” (It wasn’t immediately clear whether this reviewer ran for president last year.)

Loudoun residents are especially lucky. A nearby Charles Town, West Virginia, bakery, Royalicious Bagel Bakery, was tops in the Mountaineer State. When Layered Cake is all booked up, just hop over the border.

In the words of one Homer Simpson, "Mmmmm, donuts."

The only thing that Yelp tells me is which company has the most friends and family to post fake positive reviews. I’m not disputing that this particular cake company is really good—I just don’t place any value whatsoever in anything I read on Yelp.

Layered Cake is a lovely little bakery with fantastic croissants and other delightful treats.  I was just in Tuesday for two for snow day brunch and some yummy cookies as well.  The man behind me was doing the same saying that he lived in Paris for years and the croissants at Layered Cake were exactly the same.  The pies are also delicious with flakey crusts and other pastries are likewise lovely indulgences.  My husband thought a cake we had not sweet enough, but he’s accustomed to US style whereas the cakes also seem to take a page from European bakeries.  Go on a Saturday morning, perhaps after a trip to the nearby farmers market, which is where this couple got their start.  From a real person and actual bakery shop customer :-)

I will have to try this bakery to see for myself. As a NY transplant to this area I have had trouble finding a good bakery. I’ve already given up on pizza and diners so I will try this.
One thing about Yelp! is that many of the reviews are fake or posted by friends of the business owners so it is not always right, but I’m hoping for the best here.

Their first mistake is they referenced Yelp…
