Va. lawmakers vote to repeal tax on hybrid vehicles

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia lawmakers have voted to repeal a year-old tax on hybrid vehicles.

The House of Delegates on Thursday voted 89-9 to scrap the $64 tax, following a similar 35-3 Senate vote earlier this week.

Media outlets report that Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) has said he will sign the measure to repeal the tax enacted last year as part of a comprehensive transportation funding package.

Hybrid drivers had argued that they should be rewarded, not penalized, for buying an energy-saving vehicle.

The move will reduce anticipated state revenue by about $6.9 million next year.

I wonder when they’ll repeal the Dulles toll road? It was promised to be free once paid for but now it’s in the corrupt hands of MWAA.

Just charge a tax on the purchase of all new Hybrids. It will be lost in the paper work and end up being financed by the buyer anyways.

agree Spark….I’d like to a refund for everyone who had to pay that stupid tax.

Does that mean they will be stroking me a $64 refund that I had to pay this week for this dumb tax ?  Hope so !  But I’m not holding my breath.
