Wine Kitchen coming to Purcellville
Wine Kitchen, the chic, hyper-popular restaurant and wine bar with locations in Leesburg and Frederick, Md., will open a third shop in the Purcellville Gateway development in western Loudoun County, owner Jason Miller confirmed Thursday.
Though whispers of the Purcellville location have been floating for weeks, the restaurant’s owners planned to wait until an opening date was set before making an announcement. But news of the forthcoming eatery spread faster than management could keep up with.
The timeline for opening isn’t all that loose, however; early 2013 is essentially a sure bet, Miller said.
“Purcellville is really just a natural fit. We’ll be successful there the same reason we’re successful in Leesburg,” Miller said. “It’s a close community that appreciates local businesses, local products and a great atmosphere.”
On any given Friday or Saturday night – and many a week night, as well – diners and drinkers max out Wine Kitchen’s Leesburg location, located among the heart of King Street. The restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, offers an extensive list of worldly wines and ever-changing dishes ranging from Portuguese mussels and Cajun shrimp to barbeque quail and wild game ravioli.
Moreover, a recently added high-value happy hour list lures in customers right at the 5 p.m. hour, and often earlier. Wine Kitchen also acts as a retail shop, selling bottles on their list at a discounted rate from the sit-down price.
The new restaurant will join several already-announced businesses in the approximately $31 million Purcellville Gateway project, located near the intersection of E. Main Street and the Berling Turnpike. According to Roadside Development, the 16-acre site, anchored by Harris Teeter, is comprised of 30,000 square feet of retail space, 22,000 square feet of office space, and six single-family homes. Future tenants include SunTrust Bank, IJ Canns American Grille and Hair Cuttery.
Perhaps most notably, the Purcellville Wine Kitchen space will be nearly double the size of the Leesburg location’s 38 seats. Plans for a patio and outdoor seating are also in place, something Miller has always wanted but never been able to secure in Leesburg.
For Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro, the expansion of a trendy restaurant was eagerly welcome. Lazaro said he’s kindly nagged Miller’s partner, Michael Mercer, about opening a Purcellville joint for several months.
“They’ve got a great business model, great food, they use local products … it’s very exciting,” Lazaro said. “We’re lucky in Purcellville to have a myriad of restaurants and businesses, and this just adds to that.”
