Mr. Leonard Denis Lloyd of Ashburn, VA passed away on New Year’s Day January 1, 2017 at the age of 79. A memorial service was held in the chapel at Ashby Ponds Senior Living Community on January 7, 2017.

Len was born in Chicago, IL to Clarence Lloyd and Ida Lloyd (née Chumley) as the younger of two children. He grew up in Chicago as well as some years in Indiana and Iowa. After Len’s father died, the family returned to Chicago, and Len began his studies in mechanical engineering at Purdue University from which he graduated in 1959. After graduation Len had a brief tour in the Army followed by service in the Army Corps of Engineers. Len then embarked on a long and successful career with Caterpillar, Inc. that started in Peoria, IL which was where he retired nearly four decades later.

Len lived his life as a loving and caring father and husband, who inspired harmony and kindness among all family members by expressing genuine concern for others and putting their needs first. His charity was best exemplified through his years of service in the Loaves and Fishes Ministry at the First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL where Len was dedicated to helping feed and educates the less fortunate as well as offering dignity and compassion to those whom society often doesn’t see. To his immediate family he inspired a life of learning and the joyful pursuit of knowledge as its own reward for a rich and productive life. Len was passionate about classical music, the arts, and nature as sources of inspiration and beauty, which he imbued in his family and friends.

Len is survived by his son, Charles (Qin) Lloyd, and his daughter, Julie (Steven) Maegdlin, as well as four grandchildren William, Cynthia, Sarah, and Hannah, all of whom he loved dearly and in turn love and miss him deeply. Len was preceded in death by his second wife Suzanne Lloyd.
