Channing D. “C.D.” Herrell
Channing D. “C.D.” Herrell, 85, of Ranson, WV, formerly of Lovettsville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Kearneysville, WV. Born October 31, 1931 in Washington, DC, he is the son of the late Thelma (Baker) Virts.
Channing proudly served his country in the Navy. He then attended barber school in Staunton, VA and worked as barber in Lovettsville, VA.
He later worked for Barber & Ross Co., and Blankenship Oil, both of Leesburg, VA. Most recently, C.D. worked for the Loudoun County School Board. He was an avid outdoorsman, a true Lovettsville native, enjoyed bluegrass music, hunting and fishing with friends, and pitching horseshoes. He sang in the church choir, was a life-long member of Lovettsville Game Club, American Legion Post #96 in Brunswick, Moose Lodge #1582 in Brunswick, but his greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife, Winona Pearl (Bechtol) Herrell, a son Channing L. Herrell and wife Joni of Keedysville, MD, a daughter Alicia Lerch and husband Mark of Knoxville, MD, a grandson Michael Payne and wife Rosa, of Harpers Ferry, WV, a granddaughter Kasey Lerch of Knoxville, MD, and a great grandson Raylin Payne of Harpers Ferry, WV.
A Funeral Service will be held at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 12942 Lutheran Church Road, Lovettsville, VA 20180 on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Katie Bishop will officiate. Interment immediately following service in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or to the VA Medical Center, 510 Butler Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25405.
