Charles Henry Newlin

Charles Henry Newlin, 86, of Harpers Ferry, WV, passed peacefully in his home on August 4, 2017; with daughter Cynthia Ann Carper and son-in-law Garland Lee Carper Jr by his side.
Charles was born in Clearbrook, VA on August 26, 1930 to Simon Newlin and Goldie McFarland Newlin. Charles worked as a meat cutter for Safeway. He was a people person, always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He enjoyed conversation, and never met a stranger. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and was also actively involved in The American Legion, Post 293. Charles is survived by his daughter Cynthia Ann Carper and husband Garland Lee Carper, Jr of Harpers Ferry, WV; grandchildren Morgan Leanne Little and husband Sean of Martinsburg, WV; Garland Lee Carper III of Harpers Ferry, WV; and his granddog, Rayven. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Catherine Newlin, sisters Gladys Grimes and Agnes Dehaven, brother Sam Newlin, and companion Nancy Hauber. A funeral service will be held at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, Va. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Pastor Bill Rowley of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church will be officiating. The family will greet friends at 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hillsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, WV and/or the Martinsburg VA Hospital. Arrangements by Hall Funeral Home, Purcellville, VA.
