Janet Arbutus Ecklund (nee Harris)

Janet Arbutus Ecklund (nee Harris), of Middleburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley Frye and George Ecklund, as well as sister, Shelby Jean Walker, brothers Sam and Pat Harris and parents Readow and James “Buzz” Harris. Janet is survived by her daughters, Pamela Frye Coleman of Reston and Teresa Frye Scott of Lorton, five grandchildren, Ken, Tory and Christopher Coleman and Kristen and Shannen Scott and three granddogs, Buddy, Teddy and Happy Coleman. Janet was raised in Neersville, VA; lived for many years in Lovettsville, VA; but spent the last 25 years in Middleburg, a place she called home. She had a long and successful 40-year career with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency as a Senior Intelligence Officer. Janet and her late husband George were devoted parishioners of the Middleburg Emmanuel Episcopal Church where they enjoyed volunteering their time. Janet was also a long-time member of the Middleburg Garden Club, where her love for both gardening and flower arranging won her a many blue ribbon. She will be remembered for her love of flowers, her joy in entertaining friends in her home, her fondness for travel to Europe and all over the U.S., and her passion for shopping anytime, anywhere. While she will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, it was her love for her grandchildren that was unparalleled. Services were held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg, VA on Saturday, May 13, 2017. In lieu of flowers, it was Janet’s wish that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Adler Center/Capital Caring, 24419 Millstream Dr., Aldie, VA 20105. Phone: 703-957-1800.
