James W. Kesler

Died May 7, 2008
 CIA operations officer, Leesburg


James W. Kesler, 68, of Leesburg, died May 7.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg.

Mr. Kesler was born Jan. 6, 1940, in Exeter, N.H., to the late Robert Wilson Kesler and Ellen Shaw Kesler.

He graduated from M.I.T. with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering and spent two years as an Army officer in the Corps of Engineers. For 24 years, he was an operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, serving at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., as well as in Western Europe and the Middle East. After his retirement, he taught younger officers and did counterintelligence analysis.

He also worked as a court magistrate in Leesburg and as an emergency medical technician with the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was involved with the Loudoun County Civil War Round Table and the Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers.

Survivors include his wife Renny of Leesburg; two daughters, Nancy of Dayton, Md., and Christine of Round Hill; two sons, Bob of Durham, N.C., and Philippe of Englewood, Colo.; two brothers Walter W. Kesler of Fort Worth, Texas and Andrew H. Kesler of West Hollywood; and six grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 143 Catoctin Circle S.E., Leesburg VA, 20175.

Arrangements are by Loudoun Funeral Chapel of Leesburg.
