Bluemont Concert Series Kicks Off In Leesburg

© Leesburg Today - 06/29/2015

As The Hula Monsters took the stage on the steps of the Loudoun County Courthouse on Sunday night, Bluemont Concert Series Executive Director Lily Dunning took a moment to welcome patrons sitting on blankets and lounge chairs.

""We're happy to begin this year's Leesburg concerts,"" Dunning said. ""It's a beautiful day to join us.""

The Hawaiian honkytonk band, which has been awarded the Washington Area Music Association Award in the World Music Band category twice, donned Hawaiian shirts as they played their set in ideal conditions. Even emergency crews responding to a fire in an HVAC unit in one of the court buildings did not stop The Hula Monsters from showcasing their music.

Members of the band are Moe Nelson, upright bass, harmonic and ukelele, Gary Ferguson, lead guitar, Ben Holmes, drums, Lynn Kasdorf, steele guitar, and Mark Noone, guitar and ukelele.

The Bluemont Concert Series in Leesburg runs for five more Sunday nights: Furnace Mountain on July 5, Afrolachia, featuring Cheick Hamala Diabate and Danny Knicely on July 12, John McCutcheon on July 19, Black Sheep on July 26, and the Pan Masters on August 2.

There is a requested donation of $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and seniors and $2 for kids ages 12 and under.
