Classes Continue At Woodgrove Despite Power Outage

© Leesburg Today - 09/30/2015

Update: Power was restored shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to Loudoun County Public Schools Public Information Officer Wayde Byard.

Original story:

Woodgrove High School students and staff arrived at school today to discover the building was without power, after last night's heavy rains downed trees and flooded parts of western Loudoun.

Backup generators have kicked in at the high school, north of Purcellville, to keep emergency lights on and bathrooms functioning, according to Loudoun County Public Schools Public Information Officer Wayde Byard.

The building does not have Internet or indoor heating or cooling. But Byard said the indoor temperature should be comfortable because the building can hold its temperature for a full day. Plus, outdoor temperatures are moderate today.

Byard also said classes are ongoing.

""We're having as normal a school day as we can under the circumstances,"" he said. ""Our schools were built for situations like this.""

The power is expected to be restored by 4 p.m.
