© Leesburg Today - 08/28/2015

Dick's Sporting Goods recently opened its second Loudoun store in Arcola, and another is coming to Leesburg this fall.

The company confirmed that its Leesburg store will open later this year at 1079 Edwards Ferry Road, where Shopper's Food used to operate before closing in February.

""We're excited about Dick's Sporting Goods,"" said Leesburg Economic Development Director Marantha Edwards, who noted the company was hoping to open before the holiday shopping season. ""There's certainly regional gap analysis data that shows there is a huge opportunity for sporting goods in Leesburg. I'm sure that was a decision point for them.""

Dick's features Nike and Under Armour shops, athletic and outdoor apparel and footwear and the latest gear for team sports, fitness, camping, hunting and fishing. It also has a store at the Dulles Town Center mall.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, the company operates more than 610 locations, equiping athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.

""I'm confident Leesburg will be a strong market for them,"" said Edwards, who noted the town has been working with the company to open a location for a few years.
