Downtown Leesburg Street Improvements Ongoing

Street improvements to downtown Leesburg are moving closer to completion.

Construction crews are working on a series of renovations during nighttime hours on Loudoun and King streets that will go continue until the second or third week in November, Assistant Town Manager Scott Parker said.

The Downtown Improvement Project began more than a year and a half ago, and light at the end of the tunnel is starting to draw closer.

""We'll have a little more work to do in the spring. The process has been going very smooth,"" Parker said. ""Scheduling seems to pretty much be on track and we haven't lost a lot of time.""

On Loudoun Street between Harrison Street and Church Street, crews are working on the curb and gutter as well as widening the brick sidewalks. On King Street between Loudoun Street and Market Street, work is being done to widen the sidewalks, remove eight parking spaces and plant street trees along the sidewalk.

""Our goal at the start was to tie the east end triangle [at the East Market Street/East Loudoun Street intersection] with the rest of the town's look for consistency,"" Parker said. ""The work has been well-received so far.""

All construction is taking place overnight.
