A West Virginia man was charged with reckless driving after apparently falling asleep at the wheel and hitting a utility worker.

The crash happened at 5:45 p.m. Friday on Rt. 9 in Hillsboro.

According to the sheriff's office, Gregory S. Ballenger, 42, was westbound in a 2007 Volvo when he drifted out of his lane and struck the rear of a utility truck that was parked in a driveway. The car then spun around and stuck the utility worker.

The victim was transported to the Inova Loudoun Medical Campus in Leesburg, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Ballenger was not injured.

Investigators said speed and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, which required closure of the westbound lane for more than an hour and caused significant traffic delays in the area.
