Heat advisory issued; strong storms possible

© Leesburg Today - 06/23/2015

It's the kind of summer day we're famous for -- hot and steamy.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from 1-7 p.m. today as temperatures climb into the upper 90s. Factor in humidity and heat index values are expected to reach 105 degrees.

""Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,"" the weather service said in its advisory. ""When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.""

Anyone who has to be outside should wear lightweight, loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

The high heat is expected to spark some thunderstorms this afternoon, and some of them may be severe.

Storms are expected to move in to the area between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., the weather service said. The main threats will be high winds and hail.
