© Leesburg Today - 06/24/2015

Kababs & Curries, a family-owned Indian restaurant and bar, celebrated its grand opening June 8 in the Ryan Park Shopping Center at 43490 Yukon Drive, Suite 101, in Ashburn.

The event included a reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local elected leaders, including Loudoun County Chairman Scott York, Supervisor Shawn Williams, Commissioner of the Revenue Bob Wertz, and Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary Clemens; professionals; business and community leaders, including Dr.Anil J. Patel, Tony Howard, President and CEO of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, and others; residents; family; and friends. It also featured a special wine and menu sampling.

In conjunction with the event, Madan Mohan and Shalini Sharma, the husband and wife team that owns and operates the restaurant, presented a donation to Loudoun Interfaith Relief in support of its mission to provide food to Loudoun residents in need.

""We're delighted to officially open and warmly welcome our new guests and loyal former patrons of the Curry Club in Ashburn to Kababs & Curries. Our goal is to ensure our guests truly feel at home,"" Mohan and Sharma said. ""We give our guests special attention and treatment, the kind that all of us shower on our dearest family and friends-and we all love to receive ourselves.""

Kababs & Curries is the fourth Indian restaurant-and the second following the Curry Club in the Ashburn area-that Mohan and Sharma have owned and operated. The couple and their family have lived in Ashburn since 2005.

Mohan and Sharma said their aim is to offer a menu with exceptional Indian dishes that appeal to every palate, come in generous portions served by friendly, attentive wait staff, and are available at an affordable price. Kababs & Curries combines fine dining ambiance in a relaxed contemporary décor with popular signature dishes prepared from traditional recipes of North and South India.

As veteran restaurateurs with a passion for providing great food, outstanding customer service, and a rich dining experience, Mohan and Sharma said they insist on quality and excellence in all they do-even down to the smallest detail.

""We hand-select and use only the best and freshest ingredients. And we prepare our dishes from scratch every day, following time-honored Indian practices and infusing our dishes with the exotic spices and rich flavors of India. This ensures that we create authentic Indian fare with its distinctive taste and which makes it a top food favorite,"" the restaurateurs underscored.

The restaurant offers a variety of kabab and curry dishes, including Chicken Malai Kabab, Lamb Chops and Butter Chicken.

Before moving here, the couple owned and operated a highly successful restaurant in Wellington, New Zealand, also called the Curry Club. It was the favorite restaurant of Peter Jackson, the director and producer of The Lord of the Rings movies.

""Peter liked our food so much that he hired us to cater lunch and dinner for the entire cast and crew during filming. We say jokingly that ours was the only Indian restaurant in the world that can claim it served Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Arwen, Gandalf, and Legolas, Gimli, and a host of others,"" said Mohan.

Kababs & Curries is open seven days a week and serves lunch (buffet or à la carte) from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. It offers a full bar. Catering is available for home, office, and large groups, as well as for special events and celebrations.
