Leesburg Pizza Shop Mourns Loss Of Employee Killed In Hit-And-Run

© Leesburg Today - 07/30/2015

Fidel Antonio Cruz Villacorta was beloved as an employee at Giovanni's NY Pizza in Leesburg.

""He was a very good man as a worker and a dear friend,"" Manager Said Mehenni said. ""He was like a brother.""

Villacorta, 57, died Tuesday night at Inova Fairfax Hospital after being hit by a pickup while crossing Plaza Street Monday night. Jose Pablo Hernandez has been charged with felony hit-and-run in the case.

Mehenni said that Villacorta had worked at the pizza shop for the past six years, and did ""everything,"" from kitchen prep to stashing inventory and delivering food.

""This guy was well-known around here as a great man and hard worker,"" Mehenni said. ""I didn't sleep for two days after it happened.""

Mehenni said donations are being collected at the restaurant on East Market Street and a GoFundMe page has been established to assist Villacorta's wife and three children.

""We want to help the family out any way we can,"" Mehenni said.

The page has raised $1,806 from 67 donations after just 20 hours after it was created, and the goal is to raise $10,000.

To donate, go to http://www.gofundme.com/8z3ug2tgg.

""Rest in peace Fernando, you will always be remembered for your hard work and friendliness,"" the page states.
