Loudoun Impact Fund Grants Announced

The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties this week awarded 11 Loudoun Impact Fund grant to charities dedicated to helping youth and the elderly.

Grant awards ranged from $2,500 to $10,000.

The Loudoun Impact Fund was launched three years ago as a means to involve local residents in community philanthropy.

LIF donors reviewed 40 applications from nonprofits and agreed on the finalists to receive the funds.

The 2015 recipients were:

• All Ages Read Together, $8,500: to expand reading for low-income children to an additional location in Sterling;

• Audubon Naturalist Society, $2,500: to support an after-school program for at-risk youth at Rust Sanctuary in Leesburg;

• Loudoun Education Foundation, $7,500: to support its Backpack Coalition that provides weekend food for LCPS children;

• INMED Partnerships for Children, $5,000: to support its newly emerging after-school program for low-income youth;

• Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter, $6,000: to support the emergency shelter for women and their children;

• Loudoun Interfaith Relief, $5,000: to purchase fresh fruit for the elderly and children distributed through the food pantry;

• Loudoun Literacy Council, $5,000: to expand early head start literacy programs for low-income children;

• Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers, $10,000: to provide direct services to elderly and disabled low-income clients;

• NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), $5,000: to provide seed money for a teen mental health awareness program in Loudoun County;

• National Center for Children and Families, $5,000: to provide dental, vision, and clothing for low-income kids referred by LCPS; and

• YMCA, $5,000: to support its after-school programs for low-income children.

The fund will start up again next spring, welcoming contributions of $1,000 for individuals and $5,000 for businesses.
