State police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck a moped on an Interstate 66 ramp in Falls Church on Thursday, killing the bike's rider.

Virginia State Police Trooper T.J. Patrick was called to the Falls Church exit ramp in Fairfax County at 4:35 p.m., where he found a black 2012 Intercept moped on its side near the left curb of the exit ramp with severe damage. Its rider, Jerry Knight, 51, of Arlington, was found dead next to the moped, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller. Knight was wearing a helmet.

""There were no other vehicles at the scene when police arrived, but Trooper Patrick's investigation revealed that the moped did collide with another vehicle,"" Geller said.

Anyone who might have seen the moped or witnessed the crash is asked to please contact the state police at 703-803-0026 or at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
