A 44-year-old Woodbridge man was killed Friday morning when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 1 at Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.

The incident happened about 4:15 a.m. The victim, identified as Noe Zarte Mares, was crossing U.S. 1 in a designated crosswalk when he was hit by the southbound 2005 Freightliner truck, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

While Mares was in the crosswalk, the crosswalk signal was not activated, Perok said.

""When the pedestrian entered the roadway to cross Jefferson Davis Highway, the traffic light transitioned from red to green,"" Perok said.

The tractor-trailer driver, a 51-year-old Wellford, S.C. man, was not charged.

Speed, alcohol and drug use were not factors on his part, Perok said.
