Rabbi David Greenspoon To Lead Congregation Sha’are Shalom

Congregation Sha'are Shalom in Leesburg has selected Rabbi David Greenspoon as its new religious leader.

""We are thrilled to welcome Rabbi Greenspoon and his family to CSS and we look forward to having him lead us in prayer and learning,"" CSS President Joan DeSantis said in an announcement of the hiring. ""In his short time with us, Rabbi Greenspoon has already demonstrated his intuitive gifts for spiritual leadership, inspiring us with an energetic passion that will steward our young community through the next decade of growth.""

Congregation leaders cited Greenspoon's strong educational, liturgical, and pastoral experience. Greenspoon is a former enlisted U.S. Navy veteran and Reserve chaplain. He has taught middle and high school and has been a leader in rabbinic and interfaith clergy organizations.

""His openness, approachability and commitment to inclusivity have already enabled him to develop connections with the congregation's members independent of age, gender, marital status, religious preference, or sexual orientation,"" Transition Committee co-chair Jill Weiss stated.

The synagogue will hold an open house cookout Monday, Sept. 7 to welcome Greenspoon to the community and to showcase the congregation to prospective members. From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there will be live music, crafts, games, tours the preschool and religious schools and the opportunity to learn how to sound the shofar (ram's horn) in advance of the upcoming Jewish New Year.

The synagogue is located at 19357 Evergreen Mills Road, across the street from Heritage High School, in Leesburg. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and chairs.
