Hours after the victim in Monday night's hit-and-run crash in Leesburg died from his injuries, the suspect in the case surrendered to authorities.

According to the Leesburg Police Department, Jose Pablo Hernandez Reyes, 47, of no fixed address, was arrested Wednesday evening at police headquarters, just feet away from the Plaza Street location where the crash happened.

Reyes is charged with felony hit and run after he allegedly hit Fidel Antonio Cruz Villacorta, 57, of Leesburg, who was crossing the street. Reyes was identified after a witness followed his truck from the scene and photographed the vehicle and license plate.

Villacorta was flown from the scene to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment. He died just before midnight Tuesday. The cause of death is pending an autopsy, police said.

Reyes was ordered held on a $100,000 secured bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
