UPDATE: Lockout At Leesburg Schools Lifted

© Leesburg Today - 09/25/2015

Loudoun County High and Catoctin Elementary schools were on ""lockout"" this afternoon after a report of an armed man in the neighborhood, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

Leesburg officers responded to the scene after hearing that a man carrying a rifle was apparently seen near the Safeway on South King Street and Catoctin Circle.

Leesburg Police Lt. Jeff Dube said shortly after 3 p.m. the department ""closed out the incident as unfounded.""

The schools were placed on ""lockout"" status for 30 minutes, which means normal school operations were ongoing but no one was allowed in or out of the building, according to Loudoun County Public Schools Public Information Officer Wayde Byard.

""Everyone is safe, but we just want to wait for Leesburg PD to give us the all clear,"" Byard said just before 2 p.m.
