A candlelight prayer vigil is planned for 7:30 p.m. Thursday in remembrance of two Cardinal Ridge Elementary School students.

Brothers Desmond Javon Holmes, 9, and Quincy Jamal Holmes, 10, were in a car crash near Charlottesville July 20. Quincy died at the scene of the crash and Desmond died July 21 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, according to news reports.

The boys' father and a fourth passenger were critically injured in the crash, according to Rev. Michelle C. Thomas, who is helping to organize the vigil along with the Cardinal Ridge Elementary PTO and others in Loudoun's faith community.

The vigil will be held at Cardinal Ridge Elementary, where Desmond and Quincy were rising fourth and fifth-graders, respectively. The school is at 26155 Bull Run Post Office Road in Centreville.

Thomas, pastor of Leesburg-based Holy & Whole Life Changing Ministries International, said she's asking that members of all local churches, places of worship and the community at large attend the event to show support for the young boys' friends and family.

""It is at heartbreaking, unfathomable moments like these, that the faith community must unite in solidarity to help usher in healing and hope, by sharing prayers of comfort, peace and strength,"" Thomas said in a prepared statement. ""This tragedy is a great loss to our community, but we stand united with the Holmes family and will continue to support them throughout this process.""
