Stone Bridge High School alum J.B. Bukauskas has agreed to a contract with the Houston Astros, the Major League Baseball organization that drafted him with the 15th overall pick in the 2017 draft.

The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher reportedly received a $3.6 million signing bonus.

After his signing was made official July 7, Bukauskas joined the Gulf Coast League Astros in Florida.

The 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year as a junior at the University of North Carolina, Bukauskas is now part of a loaded farm system for the Astros, who own the best record in the American League.

During his introductory press conference, Bukauskas said he plans to "fit in any way I possibly can and try my best to have a good career ... wherever they see fit for me is where I'll go and pitch my best."

Bukauskas drew strong MLB interest during his final high school season playing for Stone Bridge and coach Sam Plank.

Though he informed teams he was going to fulfill his commitment to attend and play college baseball at UNC, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected him in the 20th round of the 2014 draft.

Bukauskas posted a 21-6 record with a 3.18 ERA in 42 career starts for North Carolina, finishing fifth in career strikeouts with 294.

Good luck.  Always great to see a local kid make it to the pros.
