Ashburn resident brings home state title for APEX

APEX gymnast Maddy Scozzie earned a state title March 23-24 in Richmond at the level 9 State Championships. Scozzie, a senior at Broad Run High School who will compete next year for SUNY Cortland, won the all-around gold medal. Additionally, she took gold in vault and balance beam and placed second in floor.

Anli Solly and Cassidy Gagnon each took silver medals, with Solly’s on beam and Gagnon’s on floor.

Also earning accolades for APEX was Amy Eck, a Level 8 gymnast. Eck made the Virginia all-region team.

Overall, eleven gymnasts qualified for regionals. For level 9, regionals will be held at Virginia Beach and for level 8, Berks County, Pa.

The following APEX gymnasts will be attending regionals:

Level 8: Amy Eck, 4th vault, 5th beam, 5th bars, 5th all-around; Eleni Papadopoulos 3rd bars, 5th vault, 6th all-around

Level 9: Maddy Scozzie: 1st all-around, 1st vault, 1st beam, 2nd floor; Kylie Klokis, 3rd beam, 3rd all-around; Cassidy Gagnon, 2nd floor; Bridgette Schaal 3rd vault; Alex Cocozza 4th floor, 5th all-around; Madison O’Braitis, 4th vault, 6th beam; Jessica Schaub, 7th all-around; Caitlin Villavicencio, 7th beam; Sara Connors 7th beam
