Stone Bridge seniors Jonathan Allen and Ryan Burns will be among the top high school football players in the nation showcasing their skills at the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The game is set for Jan. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio and will be broadcast live on NBC at 1 p.m.

The All-American Bowl will feature 90 of the top players nationally in a East vs. West matchup. Allen and Burns - who helped lead the Bulldogs to AAA Liberty District and Northern Region Division 5 titles in 2012 - will play for the East squad.

Allen is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive lineman. The 2012 Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year is verbally committed to continue his football career at the University of Alabama.

Burns, 6-foot-4, 218 pounds, is one of the top rated pro-style quarterbacks in the nation. Burns has verbally committed to Stanford University.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection committee offered high praise for both Stone Bridge standouts.

“Allen is a very impressive edge rusher who changes direction quickly and has great closing speed when getting after the quarterback. He is also good against the run, using his length to string things out to the outside and shooting the gap.”

“Burns is one of the most impressive quarterbacks in the country physically with great size and a strong arm. He is smooth in his drops, sees the field well and can make all the throws needed at the next level. Burns is also tough to tackle in the pocket and will take a hit to complete a pass.”

Briar Woods High School alum Alex Carter played in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Carter started eight games at defensive back for Stanford as a true freshman in 2012.
