Auerbach nets honor

SUNY Potsdam freshman outside hitter Rachel Auerbach has been selected as The State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball for the week ending Oct. 14.

Auerbach, a Stone Bridge alum, posted her first triple-double of the season with 19 kills, 11 digs and 10 assists against Ithaca College at the Ithaca Tournament. Auerbach leads Potsdam (19-11) with 259 kills and is second with 49 assists.

Auerbach also has 156 digs, 34 aces and 26 blocks this season for the Bears.



Jacobus commits to Alderson-Broaddus

Loudoun County High School senior Kiley Jacobus has committed to attend and continue her softball career at Alderson-Broaddus College, a Division II program in Philippi, W. Va.

Jacobus, a pitcher, has been selected to the All-Dulles District team in each of her first three seasons, garnering first-team honors as a junior. She plays club softball for the Fire & Ice 18U squad.

The Alderson-Broaddus Battlers compete in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.



Busa to volley at Elon

Heritage High School junior Sydney Busa has verbally committed to Elon University (N.C.) for volleyball. Busa leads the Pride in kills, digs and blocks this season.

Busa earned first team All-Dulles District and second team All-Region II honors as a sophomore. She has slammed double-digit kills in 11 of Heritage’s 18 matches in 2012.

The Elon Phoenix are members of the Division I Southern Conference.



Phillips is Naval Academy bound

Maggie Phillips, a junior at Loudoun County High School, recently accepted an offer to play volleyball at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. She will join the Midshipmen in the fall of 2014.

Phillips’ parents both have military backgrounds. Her mother, Gretchen is a U.S. Naval Academy alum and former Naval aviator. Her father, Dave graduated from Virginia Military Institute and is a former Marine aviator.

Maggie Phillips has started for the Raiders’ varsity volleyball and basketball teams since her freshmen year. Phillips, an outside hitter, also plays for the Virginia Elite Volleyball Club.
