Foxcroft School senior L’Nya Caldwell recently committed to continue her academic and lacrosse career at Roanoke College. Caldwell, a goalie, set a program record for saves in a season in 2017, denying 94 shots.

"L’Nya, we are incredibly excited for you and we are thrilled that we can be here as part of your special day as you get ready to play women’s lacrosse for Roanoke College," Foxcroft athletic director and varsity lacrosse coach Michelle Woodruff said during a Jan. 31 ceremony in the school library.

Woodruff, who has coached Caldwell for the past three seasons, added, “Congratulations!”

A native of Bronx, N.Y., Caldwell started playing her future college sport with Harlem Lacrosse as a seventh grader. She played goalie for the first time during her freshman season at Foxcroft.

"L’Nya has come as far as a student possibly could and it’s because of her," said Joel Censer, chief program officer at Harlem Lacrosse.

"She is willing to show up and try something new and work hard to be the best she can," Censer continued. "She has overcome every challenge thrown at her with grit, hustle, and grace. And she continues to have a positive no matter what."

Caldwell, who earned All-Delaney Athletic Conference honors in 2017, also plays club lacosse for 3D Mid-Atlantic.

Roanoke competes in the NCAA Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
