Freedom tabs Van Acker as football coach

Freedom High School has hired Jared Van Acker as its next head varsity football coach. Van Acker spent the past three seasons as head football coach at Grafton High School in Yorktown.

Van Acker takes over the Freedom program from Mick Mullins, who resigned at the conclusion of the 2012 season. Mullins guided the Eagles to a 10-30 record in four years.

Van Acker led Grafton to three consecutive playoff appearances, highlighted by winning the Virginia Division 4 Region I championship in 2011. He was selected as the 2010 Bay Rivers District Coach of the Year.

Prior to Grafton, Van Acker was the head coach at Galax High School for three years. Van Acker also served as an assistant coach on William Campbell High School's 2005 state championship team and played football at Quincy University in Illinois.
