Heritage High School made the biggest splash during a varsity swimming tri-meet against Woodgrove and Park View Jan. 12 at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling. The Pride’s boys and girls teams swept the Wolverines and Patriots.

Heritage’s boys defeated Woodgrove, 91-78, and Park View, 134-36, while the Pride girls topped the Wolverines, 93-77, and the Patriots, 118-45. Woodgrove earned a split in the tri-meet with wins over Park View, 120-49 (boys) and 120-43 (girls).

Jake Schroth of Heritage posted the fastest boys time in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 freestyle. The Pride’s Phillip Crouch led the way in the 50 freestyle, as did teammate Tim Burris in the 500 freestyle.

Crouch also swam a leg on Heritage’s winning 200 and 400 relay teams. He joined Daniel McAllister, Schroth and Burris in the 200, and teamed up with Tyler Daily, Jude Doiron and Matt Perkins in the 400.

Woodgrove also enjoyed several strong boys’ performances. Chris Bannister placed first in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke, while Zack Martin reached the wall first in the 200 freestyle and Ethan Bloomfield led the field in the 100 backstroke. Bannister, Bloomfield, Nico Song and Adam Hoff finished first in the 200 medley relay.

Park View’s Trevor Andrus placed first in the 200 individual medley against Woodgrove.

University of Virginia bound swimmer Kaleigh Rosenburg of Heritage paced the girls field in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Rosenburg, along with Carrie Lee and Katie Lee, joined Hannah Miklich in winning the 200 medley relay, and teamed with Kayla Snider to claim the top spot in the 400 relay. Snider also placed first individually in the 100 butterfly.

Woodgrove’s Kristen Garner led the way in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, along with swimming a leg on the Wolverines’ winning 200 relay team with Shannon Song, Erin Martin and Meaghan Flynn. Song (100 freestyle) and Martin (500 freestyle) both added strong individual performances.

Cynthia Vu of Park View showed the way in the 200 freestyle. Shelby Whitmer finished first in the 200 individual medley against Woodgrove and was tops in the 500 freestyle against Heritage. Catherine Vu led the field in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke in the meet with Heritage.
