Leesburg Christian School athletes make mark on track

Seven athletes from Leesburg Christian School medaled at the Amateur Athletic Union Region 5 Track and Field National Qualifier, contested June 23-25 in Gloucester.

Above photo, from left: Silas Fair (third in 800 run), Avery Fair (third in 1,500), Caleb McCurdy (first in 1,500), Catherine Long (second in 1,500), Theresa Long (first in 1,500, third in 800) and Atticus Fair (second in 1,500) each earned medals.

Below photo, left: Anne Akagi (third in 800) also medaled before competing in the USATF Virginia Junior Olympics later that day where she placed first in the 800 run with a time of 2:30.67.

All seven athletes have qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games, set for Eastern Michigan University in late July.

Leesburg Christian won its fifth consecutive Old Dominion Association of Church Schools state title in May.
