Loudoun qualifies 19 wrestlers for state tournaments

Three Loudoun wrestlers won regional titles Feb. 11 in meets held at Kettle Run and Forest Park high schools.

In AA Region II, Loudoun County’s Logan Smith and Potomac Falls’ Batchka Zulkhuu both took home region championships. Smith, wrestling at 132, helped propel County to a fourth place team finish with 122 points. Zulkhuu led Potomac Falls to a fourth-place finish. Loudoun Valley rounded out the top 10.

Freedom’s DaQuante Timbers took home the AAA Northwest Region title in the 285-pound weight class. Timbers pinned his first two opponents before defeating Forest Park’s James Vawter 15-6 in the championship. Freedom finished sixth as a team, and Broad Run, who also competes in the Northwest region, placed 10th.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to states with the fifth-place finishers as first alternates. Fourteen Loudoun wrestlers qualified for the Virginia AA state tournament and five area wrestlers qualified for the Virginia AAA state tournament.
