Owning six Old Dominion Swim League records, it’s no wonder Sofia Davis’ teammates call her “little Kylie”, after her former teammate Kylie Jordan, who holds five ODSL records of her own.

Davis is a rising sophomore student and swimmer at the Madeira School in McLean, similar to her predecessor Jordan.

Taking a break from her time with Nation’s Capital Swim Club, where she started her year-round swim career at age seven, Davis represented her hometown Lovettsville Dolphins at the ODSL All-Star meet July 30 at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling.

Davis dominated a pair of events at the all-star meet, placing first in the 100-meter individual medley and the 50-meter breaststroke for girls ages 15-18.

"I was most nervous for breaststroke," Davis said. "It’s such a fast-paced race and it’s only a 50 [meter race], so if you mess up just a little bit it will be right off your time."

The meet featured Old Dominion Swim League’s 29 member teams from around Loudoun County as swimmers competed against the county’s best, from kids ages six and younger to seniors in high school.

"Swimmers qualify for this meet throughout the summer by getting certain cut times, or they can qualify through divisionals," head referee Lynn Oliver explained. "This really is the big meet. All the kids want to swim this meet."

Unlike past all-star meets, this one was held indoors. League officials were constantly checking to make sure the event remained within fire marshal standard for capacity on the pool deck. Despite this, the rainy-day meet signified the end of the summer swimming season.

"We’re just so proud of all our swimmers in our league, in particular our younger ones, who are like little rockstars," Oliver praised.

Following her first-place performances in the all-star meet, Davis will next compete in the USA Swimming Junior Nationals. She will continue to pursue her dream of competing in the Olympic Trials, following in the footsteps of Jordan, who swam in the Trials last summer.

"Making it to the Olympic Trials is definitely a goal of mine," Davis said. "I’m also hoping to go to a good college and get a scholarship for swimming."
