Loudoun Valley High School's boys' cross-country team put an exclamation point on a magical season Saturday at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore.

The Vikings scored just 89 points - 70 less than runner-up Manlius (N.Y.) - to run away with the national championship.

Senior Peter Morris (15:29.9), junior Sam Affolder (15:37.3), senior Colton Bogucki (15:48.6), junior Jacob Hunter (15:52.4) and junior Connor Wells (16:23.4) led Loudoun Valley to the lowest score by a boys' team in the history of the national meet.

Morris produced the Vikings' top individual finish in 12th place. Senior Chase Dawson (16:28.4) and sophomore Kevin Carlson (16:31.8) also delivered strong efforts for Loudoun Valley.

Coached by Marc Hunter and Joan Hunter, the Vikings repeated as Virginia Class 4 state champions and won the NXN Southeast title in advance of their national crown.
