The depth and quality of Loudoun Valley High School's cross-country program was on full display Sept. 16 at the 2017 Oatlands Invitational in Leesburg.

The Vikings swept first-place team honors in all four varsity races among a field that included teams from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Loudoun Valley also placed first or second in each of the four junior varsity races at the Oatlands Invitational, which included four boys races and four girls races overall.

Loudoun Valley junior Sam Affolder (15:43) won the elite Varsity 'A' boys race, while Tuscarora senior Emma Wolcott (18:52) crossed the finish line first in the Varsity 'A' girls race.

Peter Morris (third), Colton Bogucki (ninth), Jacob Hunter (13th) and Jacob Windle (20th) joined Affolder in helping the Vikings run away with the team title.

A pair of Tuscarora runners - Benjamin Nibbelink and Derek Johnson - produced top 20 individual finishes to lead the Huskies to a fourth-place showing in the team standings.

Rock Ridge also cracked the top 10 as a team, finishing ninth.

In the Varsity 'A' girls race, Natalie Morris crossed the finish line fourth and Ricky Fetterolf placed ninth to spark the Vikings to the team crown.

Wolcott and Ava Hassebrock (15th) paced Tuscarora to a third-place finish. Abigail Church crossed the finish line fifth for Freedom, who placed ninth as a team.

Loudoun Valley senior Chase Dawson (17:14) and sophomore Leah Snyder (21:12) ran to individual crowns in the Varsity 'B' races.
