Riverside's rally from a four-goal deficit in the second half fell just short in the Virginia 4A state girls' lacrosse championship game June 10 at Salem High School.

The second-year Rams twice pulled within one but were unable to net the equalizer as George Mason held on for a 15-14 victory.

Trailing 14-10 midway through the second half, Riverside freshman Jenna Greason scored twice within a 24-second span to bring the Rams within two.

With a steady chant of 'Let's go Rams' booming from the stands, sophomore Sydney Ash scored two minutes later to trim the deficit to 14-13 with 9:23 left in regulation.

The score remained that way until George Mason added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining.

After sophomore Kendra Keyser pulled Riverside within one again with 42 seconds left, George Mason won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock to secure the win.

Riverside (18-1) won conference and regional tournament titles on its way to playing in its first state final. The Rams defeated George Mason (18-2) twice earlier this season.
