Heritage High School senior Kaleigh Rosenburg closed out her high school career in grand fashion Feb. 16 at the Virginia AA State Swimming Championships in Christiansburg.

Rosenburg won individual state titles in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. She set a state meet record with a time of 1:02.12 in the 100 breast and set a school record (2:04.25) in the 200 individual medley.

"I knew my 200 IM would be my harder race and once I turned at the wall with 50 free left and didn't see anyone, I was so pumped," Rosenburg said. "Then after I hit the wall in the 100 breast and saw my time I realized I had done it. I felt relieved that all the training and all the nerves before each race were all worth two gold medals."

Rosenburg also joined teammates Carrie Lee, Katie Lee and Kayla Snider in earning top eight finishes in a pair of relay races. The Pride placed sixth in the 200 medley relay and finished seventh in the 400 free relay.

"I'm so proud of my team and myself for all that we accomplished this season and for going out with a bang," Rosenburg said. "I know that when I think back about finals on Saturday I'll remember how all the Loudoun County teams cheered for each other and became one."

The strong showing at the state meet caps a stellar varsity career for Rosenburg. Also an academic standout, Rosenburg will attend and swim at the University of Virginia beginning this fall.

"Not only is Kaleigh an outstanding athlete, but she's a team leader and a model student," Pride coach Ken Schiffer praised. "Heritage High School is going to miss her, and we wish her a great career at the University of Virginia."

Rosenburg was one of four local swimmers to produce multiple top five finishes at the state meet. Dominion's Aidan O'Hara (500 free, 100 back) and Potomac Falls' William Lin (200 IM, 500 free) accomplished the impressive feat on the boys' side.

Along with her success in the relays, Carrie Lee placed third in the 100 back and was fourth in the 100 fly. Lizzie Mittan of Briar Woods touched the wall fourth in the 500 free and placed sixth in the 200 free.

Stone Bridge sophomore Andi Mack produced the best local finishes at the Virginia AAA State Swim Championships. Mack placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and finished fifth in the 100 free. Freedom's Michael Harman advanced to the "B" finals in two events, netting a 10th place finish in the 50 free and placing 14th in the 100 free.
