Redskins sink Vikings to reach .500 mark
An electrifying, 76-yard touchdown run by Robert Griffin III with 2:43 left in regulation put the icing on the Washington Redskins’ 38-26 victory against the Minnesota Vikings Oct. 14 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
“I got to enjoy the moment a little bit,” said Griffin III, who leaped into the crowd after his touchdown run. “It was pretty fun to hear the crowd and see my teammates on the sideline celebrating as I got the touchdown.”
The Redskins snapped an eight-game home losing streak and moved to 3-3 on the season. The game was played in front of an announced crowd of 78,476 fans.
Griffin III connected on 17 of 22 passing attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown. He also set a career-high with 138 rushing yards to go with two rushing scores.
“We made that a point of emphasis this week, to make sure we came out and protected our home turf,” Griffin III said. “Even though I wasn’t here for that time, I’m still a part of this organization and I take on all those burdens with the other guys. We make that a point, and hopefully we can start a home game winning streak or a winning streak period.”
The Redskins held their opponent to less than 100 rushing yards for the fourth straight game, limiting the Vikings to 94 yards on the ground. Washington also recorded four sacks and safety Madieu Williams returned an interception for a touchdown.
“I was proud of our guys,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “We kept our composure, we came back and executed.”
Linebacker London Fletcher extended his consecutive games played streak to 230, the longest active streak in the NFL.
