Tuscarora alum sets record in first college race

Northern Virginia Community College freshman Kmaljeet Athwal set the program mark for the fastest time in a 6k race to help the Nighthawks finish fourth Sept. 2 at the Salisbury Fall Classic.

Athwal, a Tuscarora High School alum, finished her race in 23 minutes, 19 seconds, besting the previous mark set by Heather Mwitanti (24:57) in 2012.

Dominion High School alum Abby Collins was the next NOVA runner to cross the finish line in 25:58.

NCAA Division II school Kutztown took home the team title. NOVA finished ahead of NJCAA counterparts Delaware Tech and Anne Arundel.
