The United States Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association have selected Marc Hunter as the Virginia High School Boys Cross-Country Coach of the Year.

Hunter guided Loudoun Valley to a second consecutive Virginia 4A state championship in 2016.

One boys coach and one girls coach from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia were honored. Coaches will receive a trophy from the USTFCCCA recognizing his or her achievements.

The winners from each state are in consideration for the association’s National High School Cross-Country Coach of the Year award. One boys coach and one girls coach will be selected by a panel of experts later this month as the national winners.

Loudoun Valley placed five runners in the top 30 at the 2016 VHSL State Championships to run away with the team crown. Peter Morris led the Viking charge by crossing the finish line first in 15 minutes, 14 seconds.

The Vikings also received strong finishes from Colton Bogucki (fourth place), Jacob Hunter (sixth), Jacob Windle (20th) and Chase Dawson (29th).
