Briar Woods leads the cheers at state meet

The Briar Woods Falcons followed up their Region 5C championship by winning the team crown at the Virginia High School League Class 5 state competiition cheer meet Nov. 4 in Richmond. Briar Woods earned a score of 264 points on their final routine to finish 12.5 points ahead of state runner-up Tuscarora (251.5).

The Briar Woods Falcons scored 246.5 points on their final routine to place first at the Class 5 Region C competition cheer meet, contested Oct. 25 at Stone Bridge High School. Tuscarora placed second with 235.5 points, followed by Broad Run (223.5) in third place.

Loudoun Varsity Sports Rewind: Oct. 23-28 games

The Loudoun County Raiders outlasted the Heritage Pride in five sets Saturday afternoon to secure the No. 1 regional seed from the Dulles District. Briar Woods, Tuscarora and Broad Run secured the top three spots at the 5C North Region competition cheer meet Saturday evening at Stone Bridge.

Riverside High School senior Madison Bowers is the Cheerleader of the Year on the 2017 All-Dulles District competition cheer team. Dominion, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Park View and Woodgrove are also represented on the first team.

Seven competition cheer squads entered the Park View High School gymnasium Thursday night aiming to be crowned champions of the Class 4 Dulles District. Each squad led their chants, rumbled, danced and produced pyramids. After Riverside performed its routine to close out the competition, it was up to the judges to determine the outcome.

Group 4A All-State cheer team selections

Rock Ridge High School cheerleaders Abby Gaddi, Olivia Clizbe and April Sullins earned first-team selection on the 2016 Group 4A All-State competition cheer team.

Group 3A All-State cheer team selections

Riverside High School junior Madison Bowers is the Cheerleader of the Year and Danielle Oravetz is the Coach of the Year on the 2016 Group 3A All-State competition cheer team. Juniors Gabby Colley and Abby Sabloff joined Bowers in earning first-team selection.

Broad Run wins 5A state cheer title

The Broad Run Spartans stole the show Nov. 5 at the Virginia 5A state competition cheer meet. Broad Run earned 233 points on its final performance to claim the state championship. Briar Woods (227.5 points) placed fourth in the competition held Nov. 5 at the Sigel Center in Richmond.

Riverside cheers to 3A state championship

The Riverside Rams scored 272.5 points on their final routine Nov. 5 to win the Virginia 3A state competition cheer championship at the Siegel Center in Richmond. The state title is the first for any athletic program at the second-year school.

Riverside wins 3A East Region cheer title

The Riverside Rams placed first out of 12 teams to claim the championship Oct. 29 at the 3A East Region competition cheer meet. Second-year Riverside accumulated 247 points on its routine to finish 14.5 points ahead of runner-up Brentsville District in the competition held at Skyline High School in Front Royal.

Competition cheer: Conference 21-B meet results

The Rock Ridge Phoenix placed first among six teams at the Conference 21-B competition cheer meet. Loudoun County earned runner-up honors, followed by Park View, Heritage, Dominion and Loudoun Valley. All six schools are represented on the all-conference team.

Broad Run High School's cheerleading program hosted the third annual Spartans Believe in a Cure Invitational on Oct. 15 in Ashburn. All proceeds from the event will go to the Loudoun Breast Health Network to support area residents diagnosed with breast cancer through outreach and support.

Briar Woods claims top spot at LCPS Cheer Championships

The gymnasium inside Park View High School in Sterling was the place to be Wednesday night for competition cheer fans as enthusiastic cheers bounced between supporters in the stands and the stars of the show, the varsity cheerleaders. Each cheer team rumbled, danced, chanted and produced pyramids as part of the 2016 Loudoun County Public Schools Cheer Championships.

VHSL 4A All-State competition cheer team

Dominion's Grace Aprahamian, Rock Ridge's Abby Gaddi and Heritage's Taylor Bryan garnered second-team accolades on the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A All-State competition cheer team.

The Briar Woods Falcons capped a stellar fall season by taking home the Virginia High School League Group 5A state competition cheer championship Nov. 7 at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
